Hockey club “Kurbads” informs that it will participate in the 1st League of the Latvian Championship next season. The decision not to participate in the Latvian Hockey OHL League was made after carefully considering financial aspects, sponsor activity, and the club’s long-term development analysis.
This decision will allow the club to focus on nurturing new hockey talents and developing the “Kurbads” hockey school and ice rink. In the fall, a new training ice rink will start operating next to the existing “Kurbads” rink, providing high-quality training conditions for both new talents and existing players.
Hockey club “Kurbads” owner Andis Pikāns emphasizes: “The move to the 1st League is a strategic step to strengthen our team’s base and allow young players to gain experience. This will help us prepare for future challenges and return even stronger. I want to thank all the club’s players, coaches, partners, and fans for their hard work and unwavering support in the past OHL season, where, despite various challenges, the club secured 3rd place!”
The club also acknowledges that it has not successfully attracted new sponsors this season, which is one reason for the decision to move to the 1st League. Nevertheless, the club will continue to work on securing funding and hopes for the support of fans, partners, and the community in this process.
To promote the growth of young hockey players, “Kurbads” plans to launch several programs and training camps where players will have the opportunity to learn the necessary skills and knowledge from experienced coaches and players. The club is also actively collaborating with local schools and sports organizations to attract new talents and provide them with opportunities to develop their potential.
