Long time Latvian national team forward Jānis Sprukts who played in the 2017 World Championships has agreed to play with Latvian champions HK Kurbads!
“We found a common language with the team and signed a month long deal. Then we will see how it goes from there. We will help each other – for me to start the season, but I will help the team to reach it’s goals that are very clear for next month – to advance to the second round of Continental cup and to win games in Latvian league,” says Jānis Sprukts who joined the team for a practice this morning.
“I saw the game on Saturday and I really liked it. Team spirit is very good and friendly. Some guys I know for a long time. Younger guys not so much, but everything will be ok. Now it’s just matter of work.”
Jānis Sprukts in Kurbads team will play with jersey number 13 and will make his debut on Wednesday against Mogo, but he will play his first home game on Saturday against Prizma. “I would like to welcome all the fans to support us in Latvian league and also in Continental cup, because we need to show the world that we have strong fans also in our local league!”
The massive forward has played in 12 World Championships and 2 Olympic games in Latvian National team. He was drafted in 2000 NHL draft by Florida Panthers. He played 14 games in NHL scoring 3 (1+2) points. Last year he played for Ritten/Renon in Alps hockey league, collecting 12(5+7) in 17 games. He helped the team to win Alps league and Italian championship.
Welcome to the team!
