HK “Kurbads” closed the final series with a loss away and loss also the season during the holidays. The Hockey club Kurbads, based in Rumbula, lost the third match of the final series with 1: 3 against Tartu’s Valk 494, and lost 0-3 in the series. This was the first season of the Estonian championship for “Kurbads” hockey players.
The final series against the multiple Estonian champions started in Rumbula, but the next two games were played in Tartu. As in the first two games and the third teams did not change their goalkeepers. Tartu goalkeeper Anton Naumov saved 27 opponents ‘shots, while HK Kurbads Uldis Čalpa dealt with 38 shots.
In the first period, the goal was not scored and in the second third the result was a draw for a long time, but in the 17th minute, Jānis Puriņš was left alone in front of the goal, who revealed the result after Juris Bērziņš passes.
The home team achieved an equalization at the very beginning of the 3/3 when Miks Lipsbergs scored with an accurate throw from the throw-in circle. In the middle of the period, Tartu hockey players took the lead for the first time in the match, but three minutes later the home team reached 3: 1. At the end of the game, “Kurbads” played with six players on the court, leaving the goalkeeper, but the guests could not save the match.
Tartu “Valk 494” became the Estonian champion for the 13th time, winning the title for the first time 25 years ago. By reaching the final, “Kurbads” entered a new history page, the club participated in the Latvian championship seven times, but once in the Estonian championship, and in each of the seasons “Kurbads” reached at least the final.
Anton Naumov was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the Estonian “Coolbet” hockey league play-off, Juris Bērziņš was awarded the title of the best defender, and the Russian player from “Valk 494” Fyodors Gusinins received the award of the best striker.
We remind you that “Kurbads” ended the regular season in the second place, but in the semi-final of the play-off, they defeated Kohtla-Jarves “Everest” 2-1.
